Rhodes Animal Welfare Society

The Animal Welfare Society shortly called "RAWS", was established in 1990 and worked for the first years in a rented house. In march 1998, after unlimited negotiations with the municipal, the urban kennels could be taken over.

The animal shelter

Not only hard work but also money were needed to get the high conditions from tody - it was a very long way. Now is the number with 60 kennels and other accommodation possibilities, for example a cathouse. All together shelter approx 180 animals.

At least they are approriate for this number of animals, how the actual number is nearly the double!

The goal & financing

The Rhodes Animal Welfare Society is a non profit organisation, supported by charity and dedicated to helping sick, injured and maltreated animals, to raising awareness amongst the local community regarding animal care and welfare. The Society is reliable upon charitable donations to carry out its valuable work. RAWS is sponsored by the Municipality of Rhodes town and the Greek Animal Welfare Fund of England. RAWS is Associated with the RSPCA and with WSPA, UK.

Many animals find a new home. Since 1996 innumerable, abandoned cats and dogs are sterilized. Also will done clearing-up work to awake the rhodesian population.

“It is our goal to minimize the number ob suffering and homeless creatures by sterilization."

The daily and usually over hand taking work, like the cleaning of the innumerable kennels, cooking and feeding the dogs etc., mainly performed by volunteers - which engage itself amazing! Many of them come from European countries like the netherlands, Denmark, in addition from Germany.

I would like to express our lage admiration for these aids again! They do really great work, are they sometimes also still frustrating.
